Introductions in 2024

In 2024, I first met Liz Hanks when I hosted her and Martin Simpson at The Old Woollen in Leeds. Martin was singing her praises, and after witnessing a sublime evening of music, I can see why. The combination of her cello and Martin’s instruments was pure magic, and I am delighted that they are returning this May, with Louis Campbell. My wife was smart enough to record this set on my smartphone and it came out really well. Some of this we used in the promo below for the 2026 Old Woollen set.

Collaborations on “Sweet songs & bitter truth”

One of the benefits of hosting many great artists through Green Eyed Records is that I can make some really great connections. In 2024, over dinner, I approached Liz to ask how someone might engage her services. My producer Carl and I started sending over some of the new tracks, which are now being released on my next album, “Sweet Songs and Bitter Truth.”

We were both delighted with all the takes we received. Liz’s playing is truly wonderful and, crucially, she knows exactly how to add her sound in a way that really enhances the track. We recorded four original tracks and two cover versions for the album that will be soon released on all digital platforms as well as on CD and vinyl.

Liz Hanks solo album “Land”

I’ve been listening to Liz Hank’s album “Land” and enjoying it greatly. There’s a terrific sonic range, and, as always, a brilliant musical touch. In addition to the original album, there is a Land Remix, a terrific piece of work available on Bandcamp.
